Nicada Digital has built and looked after more than 800 websites since 2014, almost all of them on WordPress. Hosting is the part clients never see and always feel.

SiteGround is one of the best-known names in WordPress hosting. It has been going since 2004, is still privately owned, and says it hosts around three million domains.

We have recommended SiteGround on our own website before. It is a good host. But it is priced in a way that catches people out, and in the last year it has turned itself into something more than a host, with a set of AI tools. This review covers both.

Our verdict: 8 / 10

The short version: SiteGround is a great choice if you want help on the phone, a cheap first year, servers near your customers wherever they are, or the AI tools. Its feature list is one of the most complete you can buy.

The catch: after year one the price goes up about six times. Know that going in, and SiteGround is easy to recommend.

How we assessed SiteGround

This review is based on SiteGround's own plans, prices and terms, checked on siteground.co.uk on 1 October 2026, and on twelve years of building and looking after WordPress sites. We do not quote our own speed tests.

We are affiliates for both SiteGround and WPX, which compete with each other. We earn a commission whichever you choose, so we have tried to say plainly where each one wins.

What SiteGround Is Genuinely Good At

Support You Can Phone

This is SiteGround's best feature. You can reach a person by phone, live chat or ticket, 24 hours a day, and its support staff are employed by SiteGround rather than outsourced. Customers rate it highly: 4.9 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 30,899 reviews as of October 2026. That is an unusually high score from an unusually large number of people.

Plenty of hosts have dropped phone support. If you would rather talk a problem through than type it, SiteGround is one of the few big hosts that still lets you.

Servers Close to Your Customers, Wherever They Are

SiteGround runs on Google Cloud and has 11 data centres: four in the US, five in Europe (London, the Netherlands, Frankfurt, Madrid and Paris), plus Singapore and Sydney. You choose where your site lives and can move it later. On top of that, its CDN serves files from over 170 locations.

For a UK business, the London data centre is what matters. For a business selling across Europe, SiteGround's European spread is wider than most.

A Very Complete Feature List

Every plan includes:

  • A free domain name
  • Free SSL, CDN and email
  • Daily backups, kept for 30 days
  • Free site migrations with SiteGround's own migration plugin
  • Automatic WordPress updates
  • SSH and WP-CLI for developers
  • Collaborator access, so you can let a web designer in without sharing your password

From GrowBig up you also get unlimited websites, staging, on-demand backups and faster PHP. GoGeek adds Git, white-label access and priority support.

Free AI Tools

This is new and genuinely useful. Every SiteGround hosting plan now comes with:

  • An AI Agent for WordPress. You tell it what you want in plain English — "add a blog post about our summer opening hours", "turn off that plugin", "put 10% off all the summer products" — and it does it in your WordPress dashboard. It has a safety switch for risky changes.
  • Free monthly AI tokens for SiteGround's AI Studio, where you can use ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, plus ready-made assistants for SEO, ads, social posts and emails.

SiteGround also sells Coderick AI, a tool that builds web apps and websites from a description. We cover all of it in our SiteGround AI tools guide.

Where SiteGround Falls Short

The Renewal Price

This is the big one. SiteGround's headline prices are for the first year only, and you must pay the whole year up front. After that, the plan renews at its full price. On siteground.co.uk, before VAT:

Plan First year Renews at Sites and storage
StartUp£1.99/mo£13.99/mo1 site, 10GB
GrowBig£3.99/mo£23.99/moUnlimited sites, 50GB
GoGeek£5.99/mo£34.99/moUnlimited sites, 100GB

That is not hidden; SiteGround shows the renewal price next to the offer. But it is roughly a six-fold rise, and UK customers pay VAT on top. Our SiteGround pricing guide works out what it costs over three years.

Malware Clean-Up Costs Extra

SiteGround scans for malware and has strong security, but if your site does get hacked, cleaning it up is a paid service. Some hosts, including WPX, include clean-up in every plan.

No Recent Independent Speed Results

SiteGround was not among the hosts in the 2026 Review Signal benchmarks, the main independent test of WordPress hosting speed. That does not make it slow. Running on Google Cloud with several layers of caching, it is a quick host. But we cannot point you at a current independent result the way we can for WPX. See the fastest WordPress hosting for who did take part.

Which SiteGround Plan Should You Pick?

  • GrowBig is the one we would point most businesses at. Unlimited sites means you can add a second site, a landing page or a test copy without upgrading. Staging lets you try changes safely before they go live.
  • StartUp is fine for a single personal site. It holds one website, has 10GB, and has no staging.
  • GoGeek is for agencies and busy sites that want priority support, Git and white-label access.

SiteGround vs the Alternatives

  • WPX keeps the same price every year, includes malware removal, and has the strongest independent speed record. It has no phone support and fewer data centres. See WPX vs SiteGround.
  • Hostinger is cheaper, especially on long terms. See SiteGround vs Hostinger.
  • Bluehost is the other big budget name. See SiteGround vs Bluehost.

Is SiteGround Worth It?

Yes, for the right person. If you want to talk to someone when things go wrong, need servers in a particular part of the world, or want AI tools built into your hosting, SiteGround is one of the best options available. Its first year is also very cheap.

If you know you will stay for years and want one steady price, compare it with WPX before you decide. Over three years the two cost roughly the same; after that, WPX tends to work out cheaper.
