Wix is a capable, popular builder, and we would not tell anyone it is bad. But people leave it for fairly consistent reasons: the monthly cost creeps up as apps are added, the editor is more work than they want, or they have realised they are renting a site they can never take with them.
The right alternative depends entirely on which of those reasons is yours. So instead of one ranked list, here is what to switch to for each.
Pick by why you are leaving
Paying for too many apps / want it done for you: B12
Want it to look better with less effort: Squarespace
Want to own it and rank in Google: WordPress + Divi
Selling products: Shopify
1. B12 — Best Wix Alternative for Service Businesses
If you are on Wix and paying separately for bookings, invoicing, email marketing or a contract tool, B12 is the most obvious switch. Its Client Engagement plan ($78/mo, $67 yearly) includes client intake, scheduling, invoicing and payments, contracts with eSignature, email marketing and a contact manager — in one bill instead of several.
The other big difference is how you edit. Wix hands you an editor to learn. B12 builds the site from a description of your business (about two minutes, by B12's figure) and you change it by typing what you want. For owners who never enjoyed the Wix editor, that is the real reason to move.
What you give up: Wix's design freedom and its big app market. And like Wix, B12 is hosted — you cannot export the site. B12 issues no refunds, so try it on the free plan or the $1 week first. More in B12 vs Wix.
Replace Wix and its paid apps with one platform
A dollar gets you seven days on a full paid plan, your own domain included. Rebuild your site from a description and see how it compares.

Reading this from outside the US?
B12 is a US platform — the pricing is in dollars and the invoicing and contract tools are built around US practice. Everything above still applies, but if you are in the UK there are two routes that fit better.
The Divi link is an affiliate link. We earn a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you.
2. Squarespace — Best for Better Design With Less Effort
If you like building the site yourself but want it to look more polished than your Wix site does, Squarespace's templates are the strongest in the mainstream market. You trade some of Wix's flexibility for a result that looks deliberate by default. Business tooling is modest. See our Squarespace alternatives too, before you commit.
3. WordPress + Divi — Best for Ownership and Search
The core problem with Wix, for some businesses, is that you do not own the site. Self-hosted WordPress fixes that completely: your files, any host, no lock-in, and the deepest SEO control available. Divi gives you visual, drag-and-drop editing on top, with a lifetime licence option. More effort to run, much cheaper over time. See Divi vs Wix.
4. Shopify — Best Wix Alternative for Online Shops
If you have outgrown Wix's store, move to a platform built for selling. Shopify handles inventory, shipping, tax and payments properly and scales further.
5. Webflow — Best for Designers
For designers who want pixel-level control and advanced interactions without writing code, Webflow goes further than Wix. It has a steep learning curve and is overkill for most small businesses.
6. Framer — Best for Small, Design-Heavy Sites
Framer produces striking results and has capable AI generation, but it is a design tool first — thin on business features. Good for a portfolio or product page.
Wix vs the Alternatives

| Your shop outgrew it | Shopify |
Switching Without Losing Your Google Rankings
- List your current page addresses before you rebuild.
- Keep your domain — move it to the new builder rather than starting fresh.
- Set up redirects from any old addresses that change, so links and rankings carry over.
- Resubmit your sitemap in Google Search Console once the new site is live.
How We Assessed This
Based on each platform's published features and pricing and our experience building and migrating business websites since 2014. We have not built a client site on B12, so we report what B12 documents. B12 details verified September 2026; others indicative.
