Squarespace deserves its reputation. Its templates are the best-looking in the mainstream builder market and it is very hard to make a Squarespace site look bad. If appearance is how your business wins work, it may well be the right place to stay.
But good-looking and good-for-business are not the same thing. The businesses that leave Squarespace usually do so because the site is fine and everything around it — bookings, invoices, client forms, contracts — has sprawled across four other subscriptions.
Pick by what you need
Booking, invoicing and intake in one place: B12
More design control: Wix or Webflow
Ownership and SEO: WordPress + Divi
Serious ecommerce: Shopify
1. B12 — Best Squarespace Alternative for Service Businesses
This is the switch that makes most sense for consultants, coaches, therapists, accountants and other practices. B12 is built around what happens after someone lands on your site: the enquiry, the appointment, the agreement, the invoice.
- Client intake, scheduling, invoicing and payments, contracts with eSignature, email marketing and a contact manager are all included on the Client Engagement plan ($78/mo, $67 yearly).
- AI builds the site from a description of your business — about two minutes, by B12's figure — so there is no template to wrestle with.
- You change it by typing instructions to its AI agent rather than dragging things around.
What you give up: Squarespace's design polish, clearly. B12's output is clean and professional rather than beautiful. And like Squarespace, it is hosted and cannot be exported. B12 issues no refunds, so judge it on the free plan or the $1 week. The full head-to-head is in B12 vs Squarespace.
Keep the website. Lose the four extra subscriptions.
A dollar gets you seven days on a full paid plan with your own domain. Try the booking, intake and invoicing before you decide.

Reading this from outside the US?
B12 is a US platform — the pricing is in dollars and the invoicing and contract tools are built around US practice. Everything above still applies, but if you are in the UK there are two routes that fit better.
The Divi link is an affiliate link. We earn a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you.
2. Wix — Best for More Design Freedom
If Squarespace's templates feel restrictive, Wix gives you far more freedom to place things where you want, with a large app market for extra features. More flexible, less polished by default. See Wix alternatives.
3. WordPress + Divi — Best for SEO and Ownership
If you have hit Squarespace's ceiling on search — site structure, speed, schema, internal linking — self-hosted WordPress removes it. With Divi you keep visual, drag-and-drop editing and gain a site you own outright. See Divi vs Squarespace.
4. Webflow — Best for Designers
For designers who find Squarespace limiting, Webflow offers genuine pixel-level control and advanced interactions. Steep learning curve; overkill for most small businesses.
5. Shopify — Best for Online Shops
If your Squarespace store is growing, Shopify is purpose-built for catalogues, inventory, shipping and payments at scale.
